Certified School Safety Specialists
Sergeant Tim Swadley and Officer Kaitlin Rundel, Aurora R-VIII School Resource Officers, have received certification as School Safety Specialists. Both Swadley and Rundel participated in the School Safety Academy sponsored by the Missouri School Boards’ Association Center for Education Safety.
The event was held March 21-23, 2022 in Jefferson City, Missouri. The Academy was designed to train and certify school safety personnel. School safety personnel from 45 school districts throughout the State attended the Academy at no cost to local districts.
Topics at the School Safety Academy included support systems for behaviors, legal aspects of school safety, trauma-informed and mental health resources, intervention and de-escalation, emergency preparedness and plan building, behavioral risk and threat assessments, and cyber security fundamentals.
The CES School Safety Academy includes the basic training needed to certify school safety coordinators with plans to expand to more advanced training and certification as the program builds and increases over the coming years.
Congratulations to Sergeant Swadley and Officer Rundel on completion of the training and the security they provide every day for Aurora R-VIII students and staff. Thank you to the City of Aurora and the Aurora Police Department for partnering with the District for this opportunity.
