Dear Parents/Guardians/Community Members,

Many of you may have seen recent posts on social media regarding the rampant state of COVID running throughout the schools.  Because of this, the rumors must be addressed.  Aurora R-VIII has been fortunate in the numbers experienced.

At the bottom of this posting is the total cases (both quarantine and positives as directed by local health departments) reported since before the start of the school year.  It does not include any instances addressed during summer school.

Teachers and staff are doing a wonderful job of protecting themselves and students while encouraging the implementation of effective practices.  My hope is that numbers can be kept low in order to continue with seated instruction.  Please keep in mind, these circumstances can change at any time.

Teachers, staff and students who have contracted the virus are currently doing well.  Some have had more of a battle than others, but as of now, they are currently recovered or recovering.

I encourage anyone who has questions or have seen postings/heard rumors to call me and ask directly.  I will provide as much information as allowed by Board policy and federal/state requirements.  My cell number is 417-229-0277.  Since the district currently has one positive case and one on quarantine at the Central Office, visitors have been limited much like the buildings.

Sincerely,

Billy

Teachers and staff are keeping these things in mind as they continue to work with your children.

-       Keeping students in assigned seats and stationary during instruction (limit student movement).  Keeping students as physically distanced as possible.

-       Promoting and encouraging the use of proper handwashing and hand sanitizer.

-       Using the disinfectant spray on desks between classes and throughout the day.

-       Encouraging and supporting the use of masks when working in close proximity to students.

-       Keeping a log of students/staff in close proximity to for at least 14 days.

-       If a student is exhibiting signs associated with COVID 19, contacting the nurse to have him/her evaluated.

-       If the teacher or teacher’s family are exhibiting signs or symptoms of COVID 19, contacting the nurse and being evaluated before coming into contact with students.  If they are sick, they are told to stay home.
